INTASC 5 -
Principle #5: The teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
INTASC 5 is the knowledge of motivation and how to teach motivation. In a music classroom motivation, one could argue, is a pre-requisite of being in music class. One would not simply join choir if he/she despises singing. Instead, students from all areas of life join for a class period and sing for the love of singing.
I know that I am under developed in this area of teaching. For a while, I believe that motivation should not be taught, instead should be found by ones self. However, know I understand that that is not the case. Sometimes a student just needs the extra little push of high expectations to light a fire in their souls. I do have catching up to do in this area, and at Ball State University, I believe that I will gain the knowledge to do so.
